3 Island Tahiti Birthday Getaway 2019

I wanted to cross off a bucket list item for my 40th Birthday. Waking up in an Over Water Bungalow with my Love. I started planning in Jan of 2019 for a December trip. I quickly realized that I was in over my head. There are overwater bungalows all over the world, the prices varied dramatically (especially for the holiday season), and getting to these places is often pretty complicated. I tried a few of the regular travel sites, but felt like it was all click bait and nothing worth the price.
I was introduced to Jacintha by a mutual friend in March. I told her our vision, and she did ALL the rest. She knew where to send us this time of year, within our budget, and time frame. Then she priced the trip with a combination of island experiences, and times. We choose to go to two slower-paced, less traveled islands over the Christmas holiday. Jacintha planned the entire trip down to the tiniest details. She booked us at two amazing resorts, planned all the pick-ups and transfers, and excursions, meals, and surprise experiences.
We had the trip of lifetime! Everywhere we went we experienced the best service, amazing accommodations, and fabulous meals. I could not have done this trip without someone like Jacintha that knows the lay of the land, people by name, and intricate nuances of the culture.
Also since it was my birthday she alerted the resort, and they brought out a birthday dessert and sang happy birthday to me. In addition, she worked in cahoots with my best friend to surprise me with a spa experience at the hotel.
For example, we took a small island transfer plane back to Tahiti and then had a 9 hour layover before our flight to LAX. Jacintha called the hotel we stayed at the first night and arranged for us to be able to spend the time at the hotel by the pool and restaurant, and arranged the shuttles to drop us off and pick us up. That is a detail only an amazing travel agent would know to do. It made the end of the trip feel like another day of rest and relaxation, instead of a grueling travel day.
We will never again spend endless hours clicking thru the to find the end of the internet to book travel. In fact we are already working with Jacintha to do an Alaskan cruise this summer.

Grand Getaway
South America, Antarctica & Peru
We booked a South America cruise ‘trip of a life time’, including air travel, with Jacintha at Island Getaways Travel in early 2019. With a cruise, starting in Buenos Aires, we sailed around the “Horn” to Santiago Chile. Along the way we stopped at the Falkland Islands and spent 4 days sailing the Antarctic Peninsula. At each of the many ports of call, Jacintha had made arrangements for tours and pointed out “points of interest” within walking distance.
As a separate part of this cruise line cruise package, we were to be escorted from Santiago to Machu Picchu in Peru. The cruise line notified us, 29 days before departure, that they were cancelling that five day add-on excursion to Peru.
Coming from Hawaii, we had three international business class flights that were going to be disrupted with astronomical change fees. In addition to our flight dilemma, there was the fact that we wanted dearly to visit Machu Picchu while still in South America.
Frustrated as we were with the cruise line’s solutions, Jacintha worked to restore our trip to Peru using other options. Those “other options” turned out to be incredibly superior. For just a few dollars more than the cruise line’s excursion, Jacintha was able to reconnect us with Machu Picchu. We had a personal guide each day and were able to keep our return flights intact. Furthermore, we were treated to additional cultural sites that would have not been part of our cruise line’s excursion.
We should mention here that during this whole re-booking process, Jacintha continued to fight for equitable compensation from the cruise line. They had literally left us stranded in Santiago Chile for five days on relatively short notice. Jacintha thought we deserved better!
In the very end, the cruise line, with Jacintha guiding us, justly compensated us. We appreciated the incredible amount of time Jacintha had to spend on our behalf and will always be grateful for her efforts.
Obviously Jacintha and Island Getaways will be our “go to” agent for future bookings.

Wonders Down Under
“Jacintha is the best! She planned two amazing trips for us: one to Fiji and New Zealand in 2013 and one to Australia (including Tasmania) in 2014. Both trips included sightseeing and hiking. For the Fiji/New Zealand adventure, we spent the first week at a lovely resort on a private island in Fiji. We snorkeled off the beach, took advantage of a treehouse spa, and enjoyed the beauty of the island and the warmth of the people. We never would have found this island retreat on our own. In New Zealand we visited both the north and south island and experienced some of the most awesome natural beauty: an afternoon sail in Auckland harbor, geysers in Rotorua, hot water beach on Coromandel peninsula, and two of the nine “great walks” of New Zealand (a four day hike along the northern coast of the South Island in Abel Tasman National Park and the unforgettable five day hike along the Milford Track.) We stayed in delightful B&Bs we also never would have found on our own. For Australia, we spent a month exploring this very diverse country. We started off in Sydney where Jacintha encouraged us to do the Sydney Bridge Climb which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. We hiked in the Blue Mountains, spent a week in Tasmania hiking both Cradle Mountain and the four day “Bay of Fires” along the spectacular northeastern coastline. We stayed in three five star lodges (on Kangaroo Island, in Daintree Rainforest, and on Hamilton Island (Great Barrier Reef). Jacintha convinced us to step up to these amazing resorts and they were worth every penny. She made both trips absolutely seamless. Thank you Jacintha! Can’t wait to return to this wonderful part of our world! “
